Swimming is an excellent low-impact cardiovascular exercise program....and its fun! Dogs suffering from arthritis and hip dysplasia as well as overweight dogs can benefit from the low impact exercise of swimming. For older dogs that are not motivated for regular exercise, swimming replaces
most of their exercise needs ensuring that the dogs work their cardio-vascular systems
and keep off unwanted pounds.
Consider swimming therapy or exercise for your dog if they:
- Difficulty lying down from a standing position;
- Difficulty standing from a down position;
- Whimpering when getting up or down;
- Limping or difficulty moving;
- Difficulty negotiating staircases;
- Taking any medication for joint pain, i.e. Rimadyl, Glucosamine, Chondroitin Sulfate, or MSM;
- Overweight;
- Not getting enough exercise;
- Recovering from surgery;
- Diagnosed with dysplasia, or arthritis,
